Narratives #2

Narratives #2 (2022) - $2500

“The humanities, done right, are the crucible in which our evolving notions of what it means to be fully human are put to the test; they teach us, incrementally, endlessly, not what to do, but how to be."
- Mark Slouka, Essays From the Nick of Time: Reflections and Refutations.

In Narratives #1, ghostly figures, representing old ideas, rise up from an electric pink ocean into a digital cityscape. Deep sea fish, a faceless antique diver, fluid statues, a merman, and one of Degas’ ballerinas are depicted.
The work reflects on dreams and fantasies that refuse to be forgotten. The city has a haunted shadow – referencing Carl Jung’s theory of the collective unconscious. The bright fluorescent colors contradict the full moon and represent the promise of new horizons.
